Thought-Provoking
Questions
I have heard the question, “Who are you?” plenty of times
throughout my life, but have never put much thought into it until now.
Instinctively, my response has always been that I am Samantha Kaye Smith, born
on February 5, 1997. I have a loving family, and my older sister, Kelsey, is my
best friend. I am an incoming junior at North High School. I play soccer for my
high school team and also for a travel club team known as SWISA. I am a strong
Christian and a dedicated student. I always strive to go above and beyond and
have always been taught to never settle for less than the best. I believe one
must work hard for what they want; nothing should ever be simply handed over. I
enjoy spending the little free time that I have with my friends and family. My
favorite time of the year is summer because I love all of the bright colors
that the season brings and I hate cold weather.
This would seem like a fairly detailed description of
myself and would allow others to get to know me. However, does it truly explain
who I am? I say no. The only person that will ever know who I REALLY am is
myself. Of course, I would love for everyone to understand me just by telling
them a short description, but that is not possible. Describing one’s inner
thoughts is something that just cannot be done. Who you really are is how you
think, feel, desire, love, and comprehend. These actions can never be explained
and that is what makes each individual so fascinating.
The question, “Where does the world come from?” has
bewildered even the greatest philosophers of all time. There are many theories
that have been created to allow people to reason why certain things are the way
they are. As a Christian, I have been taught and believe that God created the
universe and everything in it. However, the theories of science and religion
contradict each other. Scientists have the belief that it all started with a
“bang,” but has anyone ever thought that maybe the ideas actually complement
each other? In Sophie’s World, Sophie
could not comprehend how something could come from nothing. That is a
complicated question because, in all truth, there is no right or wrong answer;
it all depends on one’s own beliefs. My personal belief is that God has always
been there and that He did, indeed, create the whole universe and everything in
it.
The only thing that is for sure is that this world we
live in is such a unique and bewildering place. It is full of constant changes
and wonders and always creates new confusion. If I have learned one thing from Sophie’s World it is to never give up on
curiosity and to always ask questions. How will one ever know how the world
works if they never push to discover it? Make sure to take the time every day
to simply ask, “Why?” By doing this, one may be amazed by what they could
learn.
